FAQ

Common questions from homeowners.

What is Renno?

Renno is a secure payment platform that protects your renovation budget. Instead of transferring money directly to your contractor, your funds are held in a protected account and only released when you are satisfied with the work. Renno also keeps everything in one place so you and your contractor are aligned on the scope, milestones, costs, and communication throughout the project. You stay in control of your money from start to finish.

How does Renno work?

Renno works in four simple steps. You and your contractor agree on the scope, milestones, and costs before any work begins. You then fund the project into a protected account where your money is held safely. As your contractor completes each milestone, you can follow the progress with updates and photos. When you are happy with the work, you approve it and payment is released to your contractor.

What is Renno's protected payment and how is it safer than a bank transfer?

Renno holds your renovation funds in a DNB-regulated escrow account instead of sending them directly to your contractor. With a traditional bank transfer, your money leaves your account with no protection if something goes wrong. With Renno, your contractor cannot access the funds until you approve the work. It is the same protection used in real estate transactions, now available for renovations.

Do I pay extra fees to use Renno?

Renno is completely free for homeowners. Your contractor pays a simple 2% fee based on the project cost, and only when they get paid. There are no hidden fees, no subscriptions, and no markups on your project.

Where is Renno available?

Renno is currently available in the Netherlands. The company is based in Amsterdam and operates under Dutch financial regulation. Plans to expand across Europe are underway.

Is Renno regulated and is my money safe?

Renno operates under the oversight of DNB (De Nederlandsche Bank), the Dutch central bank, and is fully PSD2 compliant. This means Renno meets the same European standards for secure payment services as traditional banks. All of your personal data is protected under GDPR, and your funds are held in regulated escrow accounts with bank-grade encryption. Your money is protected by the same financial infrastructure that safeguards your bank account.

What if something goes wrong during the project?

Your funds stay protected in escrow while any issues are resolved. Renno has a built-in resolution process that is fair to both sides. Everything is documented with milestone-based evidence so there is a clear record of what was agreed and what was delivered.

Can I track everything from my phone?

Yes, Renno works on any device. You can see updates, approve milestones, communicate with your contractor, and track payments from your phone, tablet, or computer.

Do you verify contractors?

Yes. Every contractor on Renno goes through a verification process that includes identity checks (KYC), business verification (KYB), and ultimate beneficial owner screening (UBO). This means you know the person and company you are working with have been checked before your project begins.
